A closer look at ai skin analysis

A guided start

Follow the photo preparation tips, use the guided camera or choose a photo, then review it before sending it for analysis.

Five appearance estimates

See estimates for visible blemishes, redness, dry-looking surface changes, texture and lines at rest. Unassessable features are left without a score.

A journal you can revisit

Save your check-in and return to your history. A series of comparable photos gives you more context than one isolated number.

How it works

An easy place to start.

  1. 01

    Prepare your photo

Use soft, even light, keep your face clear, and avoid filters. Try to use a similar angle and expression each time.

  2. 02

    Review and choose

Take a selfie or select a photo. Review it, retake it if needed, and confirm before the selected image is sent for analysis.

  3. 03

    Read your check-in

Explore the appearance estimates and save the result to your journal. Compare with later check-ins under similar conditions.

Understanding your results

What do the five estimates describe?

The labels describe what appears in a photo. They do not measure what is happening beneath your skin.

Dryness appearance

Visible dry-looking patches or flaking. A photo cannot measure skin moisture. Higher scores mean fewer visible dry-looking changes; shine alone does not establish hydration.

Blemishes and redness

Visible blemish-like spots and red or pink colour variation. Lower scores mean less of that appearance; they do not identify a condition.

Texture and lines

Visible surface unevenness and lines under the current light, angle and expression. Lower scores mean less visible unevenness or fewer visible lines.

A score change can reflect a different photo as well as a change in appearance. Read it alongside the original images.

An appearance estimate, with context

Lighting, camera processing, makeup, expression and skin tone can affect estimates. Skinreo does not diagnose conditions, measure skin health, or explain the cause of a change. Its accuracy has not been established through clinical validation. Seek a qualified clinician for medical concerns.

Good to know

Your questions, answered.

What is AI skin analysis in Skinreo?

It is an AI interpretation of visible skin appearance in a submitted photo. Skinreo uses OpenAI with a shared assessment guide to produce five appearance estimates. When the evidence supports all five over matching areas, the app calculates an overall appearance summary. The research and provisional scoring anchors are listed on our Sources & licences page.

Can a selfie measure hydration or diagnose acne?

No. Our inverse dryness score describes visible dry-looking surface changes, and the blemish score describes visible spots or bumps. These are appearance estimates, not moisture measurements or diagnoses.

How often should I check in?

Choose a rhythm that is useful for your journal. Keeping the lighting, angle and expression similar matters more for comparisons than taking lots of different photos.

Where does my photo go?

When you confirm a scan, the selected photo is sent through Skinreo to OpenAI for analysis. Saved journal photos stay on your device, while saved scores are stored in your account. See the Privacy Policy for processing and retention details.
